Volkswagen Tiguan: What to Expect from VW’s SUV

It’s official! The German automaker – Volkswagen has officially announced that their highly awaited Tiguan SUV will be available in India from 24^th May.

The bookings for this compact SUV had started earlier this year, and now it would be available in a VW dealership near you from 24^th of this month. The VW Tiguan is a 5-seater SUV, which is based on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, and is 50kgs lighter than the previous generation.

The all-new Volkswagen Tiguan SUV was first showcased in Auto Expo 2016 in New Delhi. It was later launched in the European market in April 2016. Now, it would be available for Indian customers too. The production of this premium SUV is running in full swing in company’s Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra.

Exterior Design

On the first look, the VW Tiguan will prove itself through clean and timeless design as seen on other Volkswagen cars. Thanks to the MQB platform, the Tiguan is a wide SUV with lower stance. It has a wheelbase of 2791mm and is 4704mm in length.

On the front, the two slat VW grille holds the VW logo sharply on the mid. The LED headlamps are planted very cleanly. The flared wheel arches are brilliantly wrapped around the tail lamps, adding sportiness to the exterior design. And not to forget are the LED DRLs placed on the front bumpers. The designers have added chrome highlights on the front grille and around fog lamps to give this SUV a premium look. The rear is simple and looks decent.

Interiors

The Volkswagen Tiguan sports an all-black dashboard with everything placed at the best possible location. The roomy and spacious cabin with leather seats, leather upholstery and leather wrapped steering wheel looks premium. The quality of materials and plastics used here and there is just great and give a luxury touch to the SUV. We have no complaints with the interior design, styling and the placement of dashboard & controls on the interior. It is one of the best cabins we see nowadays on a SUV. 

Features

The Volkswagen Tiguan will be available in two variants: Comfortline and Highline. The top-end variant is expected to be loaded modern features on the interiors. The long list of features include three-zone climate control with rear controls, power adjustment with lumbar support for driver’s seat, heated front seat with memory function, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, reverse camera, push-button start, keyless entry, illuminated front scuff plates, easy-open gesture controlled tailgate and much more.

Safety Features

For safety, the VW Tiguan SUV gets ECO driving, speed sensitive ABS with ESC, paddle shifters, Auto-hold, Hill Descent Control and more. It also gets ISOFIX, dual front, front side and curtain airbags as a standard safety feature available on both variants.

Infotainment System

The Volkswagen Tiguan features a modern touch screen infotainment system that is compatible with Google’s Android Auto and Apple CarPlay platforms. Adding to the fun, this infotainment system is coupled with 8-speaker system for complete musical entertainment on-the-go.

Engine & Gearbox  

The Volkswagen Tiguan will be available with two engine options: petrol & diesel. The petrol variant will be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that will churn 177bhp of power and 320NM of maximum torque. On the other hand, the diesel variant will get a 2.0-litre TDI engine that produces 148bhp of power and 340Nm of maximum torque.

The Volkswagen Tiguan could be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission gearbox. An all-wheel drive variant is also expected to be launched in India.

Competition 

The Volkswagen Tiguan will face a direct competition from Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tuscon and Skoda Kodiaq.

The Volkswagen Tiguan will be available from 24^th May 2017 at all Volkswagen dealerships across the country. One can pre-book this premium SUV by paying one lac at the nearest VW dealership.

Volkswagen Tiguan Price in India

Currently, there is no official information on the pricing of Volkswagen Tiguan SUV in India. However it is expected to be launched between Rs.28-35 lacs (Ex-showroom, New Delhi).
